Welcome to Historic Kittiewan, the permanent home of the Archeological Society of Virginia (ASV) since 2007. Acquired through a generous bequest from long-time Charles City County residents Bill and Wilma Cropper, this extraordinary property is preserved as both a working farm and a vital historic site.
Plan Your Visit & Research
– Public Tours: ASV volunteers lead guided tours of the historic house and grounds during our scheduled Open House days. Second Saturday of the month April – November. 10AM – 4PM
– Research Appointments: Access to our library, archives, and specialized archeological collections can be arranged ahead of time by appointment.
– Education & Training: Kittiewan proudly serves as a hands-on training site for the Archaeological Certification Program.

Spanning more than 720 acres along the scenic Kittiewan and Mapsico creeks, the grounds feature a diverse landscape of:

The Visitors’ Center & Collections
Our Visitors’ Center serves as a hub for education and research.
It houses:
– The ASV Library and Archives, preserving vital historical records.
– Regional archeological collections tracking centuries of local history.
– The “Museum of Americana,” a massive artifact collection compiled by the Croppers
